Muncie Drug & Alcohol Rehab, Detox & Treatment Resources

Muncie, Indiana is the seat of Delaware County. In the 1920’s, the sociologist team, Robert and Helen Lynd conducted the Middletown Studies in Muncie. As a result Muncie, Indiana became one of the most studied cities in the United States. The Public Broadcasting System aired the documentary, The First Measured Century. The program featured the Lynd’s findings in two publications, ‘Middletown: A Study in Contemporary American Culture’ (1929) and ‘Middletown in Transition: A Study in Cultural Conflicts.’

Muncie’s statistics might look differently almost a century later. Muncie is in the throes of a formidable foe: substance abuse. The epidemic of drug and alcohol addiction is a problem that has spread all across the country, all across the state of Indiana and even throughout the town of Muncie. It can leave those who are afflicted with it feeling hopeless. It can tear apart families and entire communities.

The good news is that there is a solution. There is a way out. Substance use disorder is a disease that can be treated. With the help of detox centers, rehab centers and recovery meetings, those who are in the throes of addiction can find a way out.

Alcohol & Drug Rehab Centers in Muncie, Indiana

There are three main types of rehabilitation program: residential, partial hospitalization and outpatient facilities. These three categories share in the same broad approaches to provide you with your best chance for recuperation. Residential, partial hospitalization and outpatient treatment programs provide detoxification, cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), group counselling and preparation for aftercare.

Muncie Residential Treatment Programs

Residential treatment programs have many names, like inpatient or retreat-based clinics. During treatment you’ll live at the facility. Retreat-based programs can be beneficial to your well-being because they provide a sanctuary where you can focus on your recuperation and sobriety. It’s common for inpatient facilities to offer skill building courses like yoga and meditation to learn different ways of coping with stress.

Muncie Partial Hospitalization Programs

Partial hospitalization programs are a halfway compromise between residential and outpatient treatment facilities. You’ll stay at the clinic for a specified stage of rehabilitation. Generally, this phase is detoxification. Detox can be dangerous, it’s better to be safe than sorry. So, it’s crucial to have a medical team observe you. After you’ve completed detoxification you will return to living at home and commute to the clinic for every prescribed therapy.

Muncie Outpatient Treatment Programs

Outpatient treatment programs are very flexible and convenient methods of recovery. They are ideal for people who cannot step away from their responsibilities to attend a residential treatment program. Outpatient treatment facilities are convenient, but they cannot provide the safe space and protection of a retreat-based program.

The truth of the matter is a substance use disorder is a chronic condition akin to diseases like hypertension and diabetes. That means substance use disorders have frequent relapse rates. Remember, recovery may not be a direct line from sick to 100 percent healthy, but success in rehabilitation is the willingness to return to treatment despite any setbacks.

Muncie Drug & Alcohol Detox Centers

Detoxification is part and parcel of managing a substance use disorder. However, detox is not synonymous with rehabilitation. It is possible to stop misusing alcohol or narcotics and still not be in control of your illness. This is due to the fact that the substance misuse is a symptom of this diverse illness. Psychiatric research has discovered that many personal factors like genetics, environment, trauma and accessibility may factor into the presence of this condition. There’s no cure for a substance use disorder, but the utilization of medication-assisted treatments, detox, cognitive behavioral therapy, group counselling and preparation for aftercare have all shown to be helpful in controlling this disease.

There’s no way around detox, but don’t confuse it with recovery. There are institutions which will try to emphasize and focus solely on the physical release of toxins from your body. Yet, you cannot treat the symptoms and ignore the source of the disease. Sobriety is a different way of interacting with the world and its inhabitants. It takes the practice of learned skills and the development of cognitive tools to cope with the vast changes a transformation to well-being requires.

SMART Recovery Meetings

SMART Recovery meetings are a more modern take on the aftercare fellowship model. SMART is an acronym for Self-Management and Addiction Recovery Training. Departing from the spiritual foundation of Alcoholics and Narcotics Anonymous meetings, SMART Recovery employs a scientific and rational base of facts to comprise their organization’s principle mission. SMART Recovery meetings have a four point program to help their members.

  1. Develop the tools and motivation necessary to remain sober.
  2. Manage urges and impulses which exacerbate a substance use disorder.
  3. Discover healthy options for coping with problematic feelings, thoughts and actions.
  4. Finding a life-style balance between instant gratifications and lasting pleasures.

Substance use disorders are insidious diseases that convince the patient the illness isn’t serious and doesn’t require medical and psychiatric intervention. If you were diagnosed with cancer and your oncologist told you to travel to Seattle for life-saving treatment, you wouldn’t delay or deny the severity of your disease. You’d be on a plane as fast as possible and get the treatment to preserve your life. Part of the power of a substance use disorder is the illusion of being benign. Substance use disorders have serious consequences, if remain untreated. If you have the opportunity to take part of the sanctuary offered at a retreat-based facility, don’t make excuses.
