Carmel Drug & Alcohol Rehab, Detox & Treatment Resources

Carmel is the fifth largest city in Indiana and continues to grow. The town was originally a Quaker settlement named Bethlehem, but was renamed Carmel in 1874. In the past decade, the city has gotten a few serious upgrades including the Carmel Monon Community Center which features a $24 million-dollar state-of-the-art waterpark and a mega fitness center, along with the Monon Trail or Monon Greenway that’s a participant in the Rails-to-Trails movement. In 2012, Carmel was chosen by CNN Money Magazine as the “Best Place to live in the United States.” Carmel was bestowed with the same honor from Niche.com in 2017.

Yet, there is a growing health issue taking root in this idyllic community: substance abuse. Statistics indicate that alcohol and drug misuse are reaching epidemic levels across the nation and Carmel, Indiana is no exception.

Those who suffer with drug and alcohol addiction don’t need to despair, however. If you are willing to seek treatment for the disease of addiction, there are plenty of detox centers, rehabilitation centers and recovery meetings that will be helpful.

If you or someone you care about has a substance use disorder and are seeking drug addiction treatment in Carmel, Indiana, please keep reading this guide.

Alcohol & Drug Rehab Centers in Carmel, Indiana

There are lots of options when it comes to choosing a rehabilitative facility for substance misuse. It can be difficult to know which treatment approach is right for you. We will begin by discussing the three, primary types of facilities and what they have in common. Treatment programs are divided into the categories: residential, partial hospitalization and outpatient treatment programs. Each of these should provide you with the basic routes to recovery of detoxification, individual and group cognitive behavioral therapy and preparation for an aftercare fellowship.

Carmel Residential Treatment Programs

Residential treatment programs are also referred to as inpatient or retreat-based care. During your rehabilitation you will remain at the facility for the extent of your treatment. While you’re recuperating a psychiatric and medical team will observe you during detox and may prescribe a medication-assisted treatment (MAT) to help ease the discomfort of physical withdrawal. You’ll begin counselling with a therapist and soon join a group for therapy. Your experiences in group therapy will provide you with the essential skills necessary for adapting to participation in a mutual-aid aftercare fellowship like Narcotics Anonymous.

Carmel Partial Hospitalization Programs

Partial hospitalization programs will mirror many aspects of retreat-based treatment but you will only remain on-site at the facility during detoxification. Detox is a dangerous stage of recovery, both physically and to your recuperation. It is best to have a team of professionals monitor your well-being during this stage. It is best to err on the side of caution, in the interest of your physical health and to prevent damage to the detoxifying process.

Carmel Outpatient Treatment Programs

Outpatient treatment programs are flexible and extremely useful forms of therapy for individuals who cannot take the time away from their lives to enroll in retreat-based or partial hospitalized programs.

If you’ve never been through the recovery process, it is recommended that you consider a residential treatment facility to give you the best chance at renewing your sobriety and strengthening your health.

Carmel Drug & Alcohol Detox Centers

In order to begin your treatment you must purge the toxins out of your system. The body needs to be clean and the mind must be clear for you to start on your path of this transformation process.

Substance misuse is a complicated disease which requires an equally complex approach to treatment. The abusing of substances (including alcohol) are symptoms of your condition, not the source of your illness. If you want to recover, you will need to explore where that need for escape stems from.

A substance use disorder will require continual monitoring and evaluation.

If a detox center makes you promises regarding quick fixes or a permanent cure, look to another facility. There’s no such thing as a cure for a substance use disorder, but there is effective management and behavioral changes you can make to help you remain sober. You are not your disease and you can recover.

Recovery Meetings Near You in Carmel

As we’ve discussed earlier, substance misuse is a chronic condition with relapse rates comparable to hypertension and asthma. You may need to manage your illness for the long-term and mutual-aid fellowship are ideal for helping you maintain control over your substance use disorder. Rehabilitation in a group like SMART Recovery or Narcotics Anonymous is an excellent source for support, understanding and compassionate peers who will help you navigate the sober world.

Alcoholics Anonymous (AA) Meetings

AA meetings have become an icon for substance use recovery during the past 82 years. AA holds gatherings for people who want to gain control over their consumption of alcohol. Dr. Bob Smith and Bill Wilson developed the fellowship in response to their own alcohol abuse and devised the program to include the 12 steps and 12 traditions to encourage inclusivity within Alcoholics Anonymous. AA is based on a spiritual platform but refuses to align with any faith or political institution, insuring all feel welcome.

Narcotics Anonymous (NA) Meetings

Narcotics Anonymous meetings are a natural growth to the non-profit organization of AA. As the epidemic of drug misuse spreads across the United States and the world’s need for this fellowship also increases. Narcotics Anonymous is the second largest, self-sustaining, mutual-aid fellowship in the world. NA holds an estimated 60,000 meetings each year in over 100 countries. Narcotics Anonymous shares the same 12 steps and traditions of AA and has a spiritual bedrock. The only requirement to attend an NA meeting is the desire to control your substance use disorder. You’ll find sympathetic peers, support through testimonials, sponsors and guidance through group discussion in a Narcotics Anonymous meeting.

SMART Recovery Meetings

SMART Recovery meetings are a brand new form of fellowship that bases its approach to treatment through scientific research and rational thought. SMART is an acronym for Self-Management for Addiction Recovery Training. SMART utilizes a four part program to help members sustain sobriety.

  1. Manage and find motivation to remain sober.
  2. Develop skills for coping with impulses and desires.
  3. Organize thoughts, behaviors and emotions that contribute to substance misuse.
  4. Find equilibrium between instant gratifications and long-term goals.

SMART Recovery meetings do not have sponsors, nor do they take turns presenting testimonials to the group. Instead participants engage in frank discussions while discouraging labels like addict and alcoholic. If you’re interested in exploring what SMART Recovery is all about, get in touch with the group’s facilitator to insure they’re accepting new members.

Al-Anon and Nar-Anon Meetings

Al-Anon and Nar-Anon meetings aren’t for individuals who have a substance use disorder. Al-Anon and Nar-Anon meetings are for the people who care for those fighting against substance misuse. The 12 steps and 12 traditions are found in these meetings too.

Al-Anon meetings are a response to the need of support for the friends and family of any person misusing alcohol. Nar-Anon meetings perform the exact same service for the loved ones of an individual addicted to narcotics.

Your friends and family don’t go through withdrawal, but there are emotional costs to living and interacting to someone with this disease. Al-Anon and Nar-Anon meetings are precious resources where stigmas can be destroyed, coping mechanism learned and friends bonded together.
