Excoriation is a condition in which someone compulsively picks their skin, causing them significant distress. Excoriation is also known as skin-picking disorder or dermatillomania. This disorder is part of a category of disorders known as body-focused repetitive behaviors. Body-focused repetitive behaviors cause damage to a person’s body. This condition is usually chronic, and symptoms may intermittently be better or worse at different times in someone’s life.
