Diabulimia is an eating disorder that can occur in people with diabetes —typically Type I diabetes. Symptoms of this eating disorder include purposely limiting insulin as a means to lose weight. People with diabetes are at a greater risk to develop an eating disorder than the general population because of the significant amount of focus they have to put on their diet to manage the chronic condition. Treatments for diabulimia have to address the complexity of the disorder since both diabetes and the eating disorder component have to be addressed.
