Types of Eating Disorders

Eating disorders are complex. When someone has an eating disorder, nearly every minute of every day is focused on food, weight gain, and weight loss. Thoughts and activities become obsessively dependent on these areas. Most types of eating disorders have underlying emotional components, so only addressing the eating habits or behaviors won’t be enough to recover. Professional interventions are necessary, and The Recovery Village has a dedicated eating disorders treatment team, complete with a medical stabilization program, to help get you started on your road to full recovery.

Many people have heard of anorexia and bulimia, but the truth is there are many types of eating disorders, and each requires a special focus of treatment. No two people suffering from eating disorders are the same, so no two treatment plans should be exactly alike, either. Eating disorders are very personal, and so is the care we provide.

What do eating disorders look like?

Symptoms of eating disorders can vary. Abnormal eating behaviors can occur in secret, so family and friends may not be immediately aware that there is a problem. For more information about each of the different eating disorders, visit the pages below.
