Demi Lovato in Stable Condition After Experiencing a Drug Overdose

Update: A representative for Demi Lovato released a statement on Tuesday evening saying that Lovato is awake and recovering with her loved ones after reportedly experiencing a drug overdose on July 24, according to various news outlets.

“Demi is awake and with her family who want to express thanks to everyone for the love, prayers and support,” the statement said. “Some of the information being reported is incorrect and they respectfully ask for privacy and not speculation as her health and recovery is the most important thing right now.”

TMZ was the first to reveal that Lovato was rushed to the hospital for an apparent drug overdose. TMZ initially reported that the singer had experienced an apparent heroin overdose, but the website later found out from a source close to Lovato that the overdose did not involve heroin.

On July 24, TMZ broke the news that singer and actress Demi Lovato had been rushed to a hospital from a home in the Hollywood Hills.

The LAPD told reporters that they received a call from a home in the 8000 block of Laurel View Drive in Los Angeles at 11:37 a.m. on July 24. Officer Ray Brown said that the call was for a possible overdose of a woman who appeared to be about 25 years old, but the LAPD could not confirm the identity of the people in the report. Various sources online have reported that Lovato was treated with Narcan, an antidote used by emergency medical professionals to treat an opioid or heroin overdose.

In the past, Lovato had been candid about her battles with a variety of behavioral health issues, including mental illness, addiction and eating disorders. In her recent song “Sober” and in a 2017 documentary titled “Demi Lovato: Simply Complicated,” Lovato explored topics like addiction and mental illness, as well as her personal connection to both disorders. In the past six months, Lovato had continuously apologized to fans and loved ones for her recurrence of substance use.

Recovery Turns to Relapse

Lovato’s reported overdose on July 24 is the first of its kind for the singer, songwriter and actress. We will continue to update this page as more information becomes available.
