Important Notice Regarding COVID-19:

We are closely monitoring all developments associated with Coronavirus (COVID-19) and are taking proactive steps to ensure the health and safety of all patients, employees and the communities we serve. This means some off-site activities or other programming have been postponed or moved to telehealth offerings. Your cooperation during this time is greatly appreciated.

What to Expect

It’s our goal to provide each IAFF member with a safe environment, free from familiar triggers, distractions and stress. Knowing what to expect during rehab can help inform clients about what to bring along and prepare them for a positive treatment experience.

We recommend that clients bring:

  • A form of identification, along with insurance and pharmacy cards
  • One weeks worth of seasonally appropriate clothing
  • Prepaid credit card or cash, which will be retained by staff when not in use
  • Sealed (unopened) alcohol-free toiletries, including shampoo and conditioner, sunscreen, face wash and feminine products
  • Any tobacco product you wish to use during the length of your stay if you’re under the age of 21.

Items that are not permitted at our center include:

  • Drugs or alcohol, drug-related paraphernalia and clothing depicting drugs
  • Products that contain alcohol as an ingredient, including hand sanitizer and mouthwash
  • Vaporizers (vaping devices, vapes)
  • Weapons

What Treatment Looks Like

The IAFF Center of Excellence is licensed to offer evidence-based treatment for substance use disorders and mental health conditions, whether or not the issues co-occur. Specialists at the center formulate treatment plans to address one or both conditions for each client, depending on their needs.

Rehab at the IAFF Center of Excellence is tailored to each IAFF member’s unique needs. However, regardless of a client’s specific treatment plan, rehab usually follows an outlined process, beginning with an evaluation and ending with aftercare planning.

Intake Assessment

Upon arriving at our facility, IAFF members participate in a comprehensive intake evaluation that includes a mandatory search, assessment of their mental and physical health, and medical exam. Our team uses the results of this assessment to create a personalized treatment plan for each client.

Clinically Managed Detox, If Applicable

If an IAFF member needs treatment for drug or alcohol abuse, clinically managed detoxification is the first step of rehab. This essential level of care prepares people to transition to further rehab programming, like inpatient treatment.

Substance Abuse Treatment

After participating in detox, clients who struggle with drug or alcohol abuse can enroll in further programming for substance abuse, including inpatient, partial hospitalization or intensive outpatient care. In addition to medical support, mental health counseling is included in each level of care. Once it’s deemed medically appropriate, clients can also transition to outpatient programming in preparation for returning to daily life after rehab.

Mental Health Treatment

For clients who do not need substance abuse treatment, we offer a variety of programs (inpatient through outpatient) to address behavioral health concerns like PTSD, depression, anxiety, grief and other conditions.

Aftercare

All clients leave rehab with a solid aftercare plan that outlines necessary follow-up appointments with doctors and therapists. Our case managers work with each client to set up aftercare plans with recommendations specific to a client’s hometown.

Amazing experience!!! A place for IAFF Firefighters to come and learn about their trauma and addictions but more importantly how to regain confidence while among peers with similar concerns.

I can honestly say this place is such a benefit to have for the fire service. I have seen the transformation of numerous firefighters while here. The staff is outstanding at what they do. They are absolutely invested in firefighter health and wellness. They don't hesitate to talk with you whenever and are truly invested in getting to the tools to become a better person. The brother/sisterhood here is something you will never experience anywhere else. If you are on the fence about making that call, just do it... you won’t regret it!
I enjoyed it thoroughly. The staff is amazing, the process is smooth to follow and the treatment is tailored personally for you. I’ve learned a lot of skills to cope in a healthy manner and am very grateful for the opportunity and all that was given to me for self improvement. It’s worth it.3/25/24I’ve needed to return to the C.O.E. following my stay a year prior. I was graciously welcomed back and accepted by all members involved. The over-the-phone consult did an amazing job helping me see that I’m not alone in my struggles and Marc Rattigan aided me in getting in as soon as possible. I will say it’s highly advisable for anyone even questioning the notion of “if I need to go,” to try to go as soon as possible. If your own attempts and understanding has not yielded you positive returns for your betterment and you are tired of the spiral of misfortune then go. A positive spirit resides within the Center and those who desires to take their lives back with assertiveness and confidence through the most dire of circumstances will find just that and more. Spread the word and let everyone know the good news!

All of the staff is wonderful and very genuine with your time and treatment. I highly recommend anyone that may be struggling to find your way out to this facility if and when needed. It could make the difference in your life in ways you may have never though possible.
