The Recovery Village Columbus Continuing Education Event
On Friday, November 15th, The Recovery Village Columbus invites you to join us for our monthly educational and networking event.
Topic: From Cultural Competency to Cultural Humility: What is the Difference and Why Does It Matter?
Individuals and organizations are increasingly aware of the need to create more welcoming and inclusive environments for members of marginalized communities. This has routinely been pursued via a strategy of Cultural Competency: The building of knowledge, skills, and capacity to identify, understand and respect the unique beliefs, values, customs, language, abilities, and traditions of all people in order to provide effective programs and services. This is something that people and institutions should strive to achieve but to truly create affirming spaces for members of marginalized populations, it is often an insufficient approach. This training will dig into the benefits and limitations of cultural competency, and explain why we should also pursue the goals of cultural humility. Primarily through an LGBTQ+ lens, this training will define cultural competency and cultural humility, and provide practical tips on how people and organizations can work towards achieving greater cultural humility.
2 Continuing Education credit hours will be awarded as accredited by NBCC.
