About the Presenter:
Valerie Shinbaum, MS, LPC, MAC, NCC, a professional counselor since 1992, has two private practice locations in the Denver Metro area. Ms. Shinbaum is a national speaker, published author, college professor, and former radio talk show host. A 12 step fellowship member since1991, Ms. Shinbaum’s recovering journey has helped positively shape and define her clinical career. She continues to incorporate recovery twelve Step tools and resources in her work with clients, resulting in successful treatment outcomes. Learning Objective 1: 

Participants will discuss concepts of addiction behavior origins, and describe behavioral and clinical issues related to addiction based behavior in order to utilize addictions behavior knowledge as a diagnostic/assessment treatment tool.

Learning Objective 2:

Participants will acquire the knowledge required to discuss the psychological damage of addiction based behaviors not only in terms of clients but also as it concerns/affects significant others, in order to develop action strategies for incorporating the needs of significant others/family members in clinical treatment settings, including but not limited to facilitating treatment groups.

Leaming Objective 3:

Participants will create effective 12 Step Recovery Resource inclusive treatment plans that encourage clients and/or their significant others toward behavior change leading to positive and successful therapeutic outcomes.
