Psychotherapist and Addiction and OCD Specialist, In Focus Counseling, LLC
Presenter Topic: OCD Spectrum Disorders and SUDS: Special Issues
Obsessive Compulsive Disorder is often undiagnosed and a highly misunderstood mental health disorder. We, even as professionals, often overlook the signs of OCD and treat the general anxiety versus true signs of OCD. In the addiction field, we have a dedication to helping clients with recovery. However, if we may miss the underlying OCD elements, we may jeopardize a client's overall recovery.
The escape of drinking and drugging are a relief from the obsessive cycles of OCD client experiences. Lori Johnson will discuss what clinicians can do to help clients progress on their treatment plans. Explore the benefits of using adjunct therapies, such as Exposure and Response Prevention (ERP) to support the client recovery journey. Identify the recovery needs for OCD and SUDs dual diagnosis. Understand the high need for specialized and simultaneous treatment for OCD.
