CO Professional Education Series: Eating Disorders: What You Need to Know
This training will provide foundational information for clinicians who wish to learn more about treating eating disorders.
Speaker: Lori Kucharski, PhD, LMFT, LPC, CEDS-S
Bio: Lori Kucharski is a licensed therapist practicing since 2004 in residential treatment facilities, crisis and outpatient mental health, and private practice. She owns and operates an EMDR training, consulting, and clinical program and provides supervision for LMFT and LPC candidates. She is an AAMFT-Approved Supervisor, a Certified Eating Disorders Specialist/Supervisor, and the EMDR regional network coordinator for Colorado Springs, CO. She has taught MFT and Counseling courses in graduate programs since 2013. Lori specializes in attachment, disordered eating, dissociation, and body image. She presents locally and nationally on EMDR, complex trauma, and eating disorders, and she advocates for ending social and cultural stigma around body size, ability, and appearance.
Eating disorders, both clinical sub-threshold, impact individuals across the lifespan, often co-occur with other substance abuse and mental health concerns and require unique considerations due to the potential for lethality. This training will provide foundational information for clinicians who wish to learn more about treating eating disorders.
1. Clinicians will gain an understanding of the different types of eating disorders, how to
assess, diagnose, and treat.
2. Clinicians will understand the etiology of eating disorders, comorbidity, complexity/risk
factors, and transmutation (e.g., binge eating to binge drinking).
3. Clinicians will learn about the primary modalities of treating eating disorders (e.g., FBT,
