While cocaine addiction can occur quickly, so can other adverse events. In 2011 alone, about 505,000 of the 1.3 million drug-related emergency room visits involved cocaine. Many people are able to break free from a cocaine use disorder with help, and a new study sheds some light on a way to strengthen those efforts.

While it is next to impossible to recover from cocaine addiction in isolation, there are things you can do to increase your odds of success. Researchers found that exercise elevates mood and reduces stress, which can assist someone in addiction recovery that may need to deal with withdrawal symptoms or negative emotions.
